Cooling Refrigerants of the Future. An air conditioner or heat pump counts on its refrigerant to cool and dehumidify the air before it’s circulated around your home. This liquid is contained within the coils of your home’s cooling system, but one of the most common refrigerants that’s been in use for many years – the R-22 (Freon) is now being gradually eliminated because of environmental concerns. In fact, this phase-out was mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, the production of R-22 will end all together. Introducing R-410A Chlorine-free and ozone-friendly, R-410A is recognized by the EPA. R-410A will keep your home cool without hurting the environment. Even better news, Lennox’s most highly efficient systems are designed to use this AC refrigerant, which can help your system operate efficiently. The same Lennox systems are known for dependability, quiet operation and improved dehumidification, so you can stay comfortable. Additional Considerations At White Mechanical, Inc. in Laguna Hills, our cooling models can work with R-410A. If your system was installed before 2010, you may want to consider replacing your cooling system now, before R-22 is completely phased out. Some manufacturers carry alternate refrigerants such as R-407C, R-438A and R-422, however, they may not work with an R-22 AC or heat pump and could compromise your system’s performance.
